There will be a roughly $54.77 decrease on local property taxes for the owner of an averaged assessed home of $322,164, Councilman Joel Brizzi said.
The local tax levy decreased $81,000 to $10.73 million, according to Tony Bianchi, the borough’s chief financial officer.
Overall – including municipal, library, district and regional school, and county taxes – the average East Rutherford homeowner’s tax bill will be $6,262.87, Brizzi said. That figure is roughly 1 percent less than last year, he added.
The borough's property taxes are the second-lowest in Bergen County after Teterboro, Brizzi noted.
The governing body on Tuesday voted 4-1 in favor of the budget.
Councilman Jeff Lahullier voted no, saying he wasn’t willing to appropriate as much surplus as was in this years budget.
"With raises due to contracts, health insurance and pension increases, it shows fiscal responsibility and restraint to be able to adopt a budget with a tax ley cut three years in a row," said Councilman Mike Homaychak, who is also the finance chairman.
